Pregnancy Education Is Essential When You Are Pregnant

When you are pregnant, you can feel like you practically live at your obstetrician's office. It is extremely important to attend all of your obstetrical appointments during the course of your pregnancy, so the doctors can monitor how you and the baby are doing. This is a great time to address any concerns you might be having. This article will give you tips for being prepared for your doctor visits.

If you do not yet have an OBGYN, now is the time to find one. You can set up interviews, and find one that you feel you connect with. You will be seeing this doctor often, and they may deliver your baby. Make sure you choose one that you feel extremely comfortable with and can trust.

Pass off the cat litter cleaning duties to someone else once you have found out you are pregnant. Changing cat litter while pregnant can cause you to develop toxoplasmosis. While toxoplasmosis is generally mild to the mother, it can cause serious complications in the fetus. Be safe and just avoid it entirely.

Engage in Kegel exercises each day. This activity can improve your pelvic muscles, which affect your bladder, bowels and uterus. Kegels will help with your delivery, and they can be done just about anywhere, including in the car or at work. To do them correctly, you should squeeze like you want to stop yourself from using the bathroom. Hold this position for three seconds and then relax for three. Do this in sets of ten.

Just like everyone does, women that are pregnant need to be sure that they're protecting their skin before going out into the sun. Women have skin that becomes more sensitive when they're pregnant so that means things like sunburn can happen. This could also cause skin cancer, so be careful about being in the sun too often.

Don't forget your partner or spouse when you're pregnant. More than likely, they are feeling just as nervous about the baby as you are, and they probably need reassurance, too. Maybe you can take a walk or go out to the movies together. Get the most out of your time together before your baby arrives.

Tell your doctor if you notice swelling in your feet after becoming pregnant. While this might just be a side effect of your pregnancy, it might also be a symptom of preeclampsia, which is a dangerous condition of high blood pressure that afflicts expecting mothers. Leaving this condition untreated could cause birthing problems.

Yoga is a great way to prepare for childbirth. This form of exercise helps with morning sickness and eases discomfort caused by back pain. The stretches used in yoga help cultivate the muscles used for birthing. Most pregnant woman find that they have less aches and pains and more energy while practicing yoga during pregnancy.

If you are working at a desk job during your pregnancy, you will need to make sure that you have lots of times during the day that you can get up and walk. Sitting down will put extra stress on your tailbone and hips, which are already absorbing a great deal more weight. Taking walks and moving around frequently will help keep this from becoming a problem.

Listen to soft music and take a hot shower before bed time. Sleep can become more difficult the further along that you get. Avoid sleep aids and other pills by putting your body and your mind into a restful state before you even get into bed. A hot shower and soothing music will do this for you.

If you are trying to conceive a baby, be sure to alert your doctor. This will eliminate the chances of them putting you on any medications or running tests that will make it harder for you to conceive or hurt your baby if you are pregnant.

While you're pregnant, avoid being near cat litter. Cat litter might contain toxoplasmosis, a parasite that could hurt your baby. Don't allow your unborn child's health to be in jeopardy. So, eliminate cat litter from your home.

If you are working on your nursery, be sure to avoid fumes and smells that may be associated with wallpaper or paint. While the risk of problems to your baby may be small, don't take the chance, just keep the windows open or avoid working with paint and wallpaper at all.

Visit the dentist before you get pregnant. Studies have shown that periodontal disease can lead to inflammation; this inflammation has the potential to affect whether or not you develop preeclampsia. Preeclampsia can have serious consequences for the health of both you and your child, so it is important to do everything you can to improve your teeth prior to conception.

Put together a birth plan to prepare the conditions in which you will give birth. You can talk about different preferences you might have as you prepare to give birth. You can plan as many details as you want.

Remove any rings that you have. Your fingers will swell if it is hot during your pregnancy and the last thing you want is a ring that won't come off that they have to cut off. It is also important to remove any belly button piercing, so that you don't get any rips or tears.

Try to avoid getting live-virus vaccines when you are pregnant. These types of vaccines can actually cause harm to your unborn baby. Vaccines that have live-viruses include chicken pox, measles, mumps, tuberculosis, and Rubella. Also, do not get the nasal flu vaccine as this can also cause damage to your baby.

Make sure you drink enough water when pregnant. Not only do you and your baby need to be hydrated, but you may overeat if you're thirsty. Dehydration can make you think you're hungry. If it has been less than a two or three hours since your last meal, grab some water rather than a snack.

As stated at the beginning of the article, it is extremely important to keep up with your obstetric care during your pregnancy. Although the visits might all seem similar, they are necessary to monitor how the pregnancy is going. Hopefully, after reading this article, you will feel more prepared at your next obstetrical visit.
